Just War Theory

They believed back than that war was the answer. But of course we know that war is not the answer because people such as Gandhi have changed the point of views of people. Gandhi helped save his people without the use of violence. Martin Luther King Jr. did the same thing by leading his people out of segregation. But then their are those times when you do have to use violence to enforce the law. For example if a girl is getting slapped by a guy and someone tries to help by fighting with the guy slapping the girl. Then it is alright to use violence because you are helping a citizen in need of assistance. But to use violence just to conquer is not right. Or to use violence because you can is also not right. You don't have to use just war to help win battles you can always use negotiation to help you overcome your battles.

St. Thomas Aquinas' Five Ways

-In the 2nd way of St. Thomas Aquinas' 5 Ways he states that nothing can be cause of itself or nothing ccan create itself. But in the stages of meosis the cells reproduce itself.

-In the 2nd way it states that there cannot be an endless string of objects causing other objects to exist. If you really think about it their has to be a string of reasons to make something happen. For example, say you get into a fight with a kid, it started off with you meeting them and then making some kind of relationship with them.

-In the 3rd way it says that not every being can be contingent. Every contingent being was created some how so to say that not every being is contingent is completely contradicting this idea.

Galileo's Daughter

Galileo Galilee was a scientist who was born in the 1500's or the 16th century. He was a physicist, mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher who played a major role in the Scientific Revolution. He wouldn't have been able to come up with these inventions and do all this things if it wasn't for his daughter. His daughter played a vital role in helping him stay healthy enough so that he could work and discover great things. Like discovering that the sun is the center of the universe and that the planets revolve around the sun and that the Earth is not the center of the universe. She gave him food, the correct medicine, and helped pay his taxes. She couldn't have been a better daughter to him than any other daughter. If it wasn't for his daughter Galileo would not be able to discover scientific theories.

Deductive Logic

Their are 3 kinds of deductive logics:Syllogisms, modus ponens and modus tollens.

A syllogism has 3 statements and 2 terms for each line. It has a major premise and a minor premise and then a conclusion.

Example:All sports help humans become physically healthy
Kobe is a human
Kobe is physically healthy

Modus Ponens is justified as

if P, then Q

P

Therefore, Q

Example:If Alex can hit, we'll give Derek batting practice
Alex can hit
Therefore, we'll give Derek batting practice

Modus tollens is justified as

if P, then Q

not q

Therefore, not q

Example:If you are rich you are wealthy, if you are not wealthy you are not rich
